Here We Snow Again

Yesterday was the closest we have come to actually seeing the ground up here in the mountains. We haven't had any snow accumulate in weeks and it's actually been warm enough for what we had on the ground to melt. Until this morning! I woke up to see everything covered once again and the snow keeps on falling.

I'm not sure if you can see the snow falling in this picture but it's there! I better get into town and stock up on booze before I'm snowed in.

Good News!

I finally have the interwebs up and running and a land line at the new house! We still don't have cable TV but hopefully that will be remedied this weekend when the Direct TV folks get out here.

Otherwise, the unpacking and setting up home is coming along nicely. Even though we are just a little over two and half hours north of the city, the weather here is drastically different. We had close to two feet of snow fall last week and it's just staring to melt. Check out the following picture of my back yard to see what I'm talking about.

Hopefully now that I've got the "emails" I'll be getting back to a more regular posting schedule.

Mean Spirited Monday

Every Monday morning I post a picture of some random celebrity, or non-celebrity for you to comment on. Remember to have fun and be mean spirited with your comments.

After teasing us with fall-like weather for 2 full days, the weather in NYC is once again balmy and heading for the 80s.

So for this week's Mean Spirited Monday, lets turn our weather rage towards the person responsible for this mess, Mother Nature. Let the meanness begin!

WTF!?

The words "humid" and "muggy" should never need to be associated with the date October 3. Right now we should be thinking about gourdes, pumpkin-spice lattes, sweaters and road trips through New England to enjoy the fall foliage (no, I've never actually done that either but I think about it every year on October 3).

Instead, as I've done for the past four months, I started my day off thinking about what I could wear that would be appropriate for work but not cause me to sweat to death before getting there. Welcome to the tropical island of Manhattan!

I guess I'll just have to sit here in my short-sleeves with the AC cranked up and stair at this lovely photo.

What's The Deal With This Crazy Weather

Many people here in the North East have been talking about the odd weather we have been experiencing lately. I'm sure this is a hot topic in other regions of the country as well but I don't live in those places so I can't speak for them. Here in New York, we had a disappointingly warm winter with very little snow fall, while the summer has been insanely tropical and hot. We have been subjected to flash floods (just ask Adam and Kelly about their basement) and even had a tornado in Brooklyn this week.

All the talk about the weather usually leads to heated conversation over the cause of these shifting and new conditions. Many people argue its the greenhouse effect, others claim its a completely natural cycle like El Nino, and others feel the current administration is to blame for forcing scientific evidence to be hidden and curtailed so that the administration's rich tycoons can continue to pollute and destroy the environment for their own personal gain.

I've been enthusiastically conducting my own research into the weather phenomenon in an effort to answer the above arguments once and for all. Today, I'm proud to announce that the efforts of my work have led to a conclusive result. I've decided to bypass the Journal of Science and bring my findings directly to you.

You may want to sit down for this. The cause of all our planet's topsy turvey weather conditions of late is none other than Ming the Merciless and his weather controlling machine on Mongo.

Swept Away

If you live in NYC, you probably already know about this morning's crazy weather. If you don't consider a tornado descending on Brooklyn like a pack of overeating Japanese kids heading to Coney Island for the 4th of July hot dog eating contest crazy then you and I have nothing left to say.

If you live in the city and don't know about this morning's storm then please tell me what drugs you are on and share.

At my normal departure for work time the subway officials were urging people to stay home since most of the tunnels were flooded. I happily obliged and decided to work from home. So here I am at home playing Wii. I have to write a review of the new Mario Strikers game so yes, I'm really working.

Jenni B, since I know you don't like to read anything longer than a sentence, I'm including the following picture, which you have probably already scanned to before closing this page.

You can see here the train I take every day to work. Obviously, I won't be making it to the office today. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the branch in the photo is removed by tomorrow.

I Can't Work Under These Conditions

This morning I came into the office to find a stream of water running along my window sill. Notice the blue can on the sill collecting the steady drip? It makes a lovely noise each time the water lands in it.

I know, we are in the midst or record-breaking rain fall but since when does the city come to a halt because of rain? The mayor is holding press conferences and emergency shelters are being set up. Now the roof in my office is leaking and this is a new building! Jeez! Get it together New York or I'm going back to bed until this is all figured out.

Just When You Thought it Was Safe to Put Away Winter Clothes

Brrr! Its cold out there! It seems as if March went out like a lamb but April has come in like a frigid beast. Mentally I already put away all my winter clothes but physically I'm wearing my heavy coat. Not that I'm complaining though, because the sweltering oppression is on the horizon and I'd rather shiver than sweat any day.

Once the humid weather is here, I go out of my way to avoid sweating. The problem with New York City is you have to walk outside a lot and even worse head into the pits of hell that the subway stations become.

One of my early jobs after college was working for a PR firm downtown that was a lot of fun until the fun people left. After that I was stuck in an office of newly hired idiots who seemed to be handpicked by the boss to hide his own profound stupidity. I started sending out resumes in the spring but held off scheduling interviews until after September. I decided it was better to hate my current job than have to suit-up for an interview in the humid summer months.

I would ensconce myself in linen during the summer if it wasn't for the fact that my friend Jen went on a date with a guy who did just that and to this day we refer to
him as the Linen Lover. He also wore a lobster bib, made Jen pay for dinner and then tried to seduce her with candles back at his place. Anyway, I know if I were ever to wear a linen shirt with linen pants (and not be on holiday in the tropics) I would quickly be relegated to the role of L.L.

So I'll stick to cotton this summer and soak up these last few cold days with joy.

UPDATE: It's snowing! I guess it's like Prince said "Sometimes it snows in April."
