I Don't Get It

So I finally saw Knocked Up over the weekend and I thought it was ok. Not great, not bad. Just ok. It had some funny lines, like most of the sister's comments and there were even a few references that I really got a kick out of like the mushroom trip to Vegas. But overall, I didn't think it was very funny and it lacked energy. Considering that most of the people I know who saw this movie said it was "great!" and "the funniest movie", what did I miss?

  1. I never saw it. I'm waiting for the paperback adaptation to read for Jeffrah's Book Club.

  2. I really liked it, but didn't love it as much as everyone else. I wonder if it's one of those movies I will like more when I see it again on cable. I thought it was really unbelievable that all of a sudden she was just in love with him. The movie didnt really show that happening.

On the other hand, Superbad was the bomb.

  3. Josh - that book won't make it on to my list.

Kitty - Is Superbad immature potty humor? Because that's what I was hoping for from Knocked Up. Instead I got ridiculous romance.

  4. I'm with you Jeff. I thought it was okay. The nerds were funny like the guy who was growing the beard. I liked when they made fun of him. But frankly the sex scenes with Seth were GROSS and the birth scene at the end was so far fetched. It was about 45 minutes too long and not funny at the end. Just sad.

  5. I like it a lot, but I saw it in a packed theater where everyone was really into it. That can make a movie seem *way* better than it actually is (see: Snakes on a Plane).

Will have to check it out on the DVD for a final verdict.

  6. Haven't seen it yet, but I loved the 40-Year Old Virgin. That movie cracked me up.

  7. jdizzle - the nerds could have been a lot funnier if they weren't supposed to be so stoned. I did like the one nerd's weird girlfriend.

Clinton - that's a good point. One of my biggest problems with the movie was the lack of energy, which I bet a crowded theater would have made up for.

haha - its no 40 Year Old Virgin - now that was a funny movie!

  8. IIIII KNOOOOOOW!
    Thank you.
    NOT FUNNY.
The movie took the first 1/2 hour just to establish what you already know from the title & commercials: oops! She's knocked up! Now what?! Gulp! It felt 9 months long in real time to me.

Agree w/Clinton about the Snakes on a Plane crowd. I wonder if we saw it at the same time? Our crowd was super rowdy.

  9. I didn't get it from the first commercial. It's too damn real of a subject to be that funny...or something. I just don't know. When the trailers don't make you chuckle, I can't imagine there being parts in the movie that make it the funniest ever.
