Gone Country

I've mentioned a few times how difficult it has been to get hi-def, DVR cable service up here in the mountains. The last time I mentioned it, I was waiting for Direct TV to arrive and when they did, they said they could give me cable but they wouldn't be able to provide the local channels. Unfortunately, I can't live without Big Brother, Amazing Race, Survivor, and I suppose even Lost. So I had to give up the dream of super vivid shows when I want them and get regular digital cable (no DVR and not hi-def) from our local cable provider. We've had that for about a week now and until Tivo arrives (tomorrow!!), if we want to watch TV, we have to watch what's on when we turn on the TV and no fast forwarding through commercials. How did we ever survive like this in the last Millennium?

So we have been listening to a lot of music and its been really nice but last night, I was home alone and just wanted to veg out in front of the idiot screen. I lucked out and caught an episode of The Fattest Losers Couple Edition and The Real Housewives of the O.C. reunion. But the real gem of the evening was undoubtedly, Gone Country on the CMT channel.

The premise of this show is "musicians" from various musical genres are picked to live together in a house and find out what happens when people stop being polite and get real live the life of a country singer with the ultimate goal of being picked to record and release a country song. Here's where it gets fun, the musicians are Sisqó, Maureen McCormick (singer/actor, The Brady Bunch), Julio Iglesias Jr.(not as hot as his brother but apparently he has never been told that), Diana DeGarmo, Dee Snider (I don't think he is gonna make it), Carnie Wilson, and every body's favorite TV train wreck - Bobby Brown.

If you haven't seen Gone Country yet, you have only missed one episode so I highly recommend setting your DVRs to record this one.

Dead Or Alive?

The gist of this post is so simple and obvious that I would be surprised if someone else isn't already doing it on a blog or other form or media. If someone else is doing it, I've never heard of you and, quite frankly, it's not my fault that you have so little buzz that you've remained unheard of to me.

The rules are simple, I post a picture and ask the question, Dead or Alive? then you answer.

This week - actor and star of 80's SciFi hit, The Black Hole, Ernest Borgnine. Dead or Alive?

I Heart Mii

Sure Valentine's day is a sham holiday designed to force us to open our wallets during an otherwise dreary time of year for retailers. But it's also a great excuse to eat too much chocolate. If that special someone in your life happens to be a gamer, he or she probably isn't really going to want that cute Teddy bear with the T-shirt that says "I love you beary much" on it. What they really want is a chocolate Mii heart.

These chocolate hearts are made of 2.1 ounces of dark, white, or milk chocolate and feature two Mii characters with heart-shaped Red Hots on their shirts. You can choose the Mii combination that suits you best from two boys, two girls, or one of each and every combination comes in a box that looks like a Wii with the inscription, "Wii belong together, you and Mii" on it.

Chocoalte Mii's are the creation of Paul Pape Designs, and although they are no longer accepting new orders, 500 boxes will be made available on February 1 at ThinkGeek.com

Throw Me The Chives, I'll Throw You The Whip

I can't imagine Harrison Ford is too excited about the Tater of the Lost Ark, Mr. Potato Head but I sure am.

The Tater of the Lost Ark is the latest Hasbro mash-up of popular film characters with the classic Mr. Potato Head. Tater of the Lost Ark comes complete with whip, fedora, leather jacket, and gold idol and is scheduled to be released in May. I'm hoping to get a first hand look at the action-spud next month at Toy Fair.

The Most Swashbuckling Speakers I Have Ever Seen

I'm not entirely sure why someone would want these skull speakers. I guess they would nicely compliment a room's pirate themed decor.

Whatever the case may be, they give off a hardy blue light when in use and cost $71.75 for the pair. Apparently there is also a matching webcam. Click here for more info or to buy a pair for the pirate in your life.

Every Monday morning I post a picture of some random celebrity, or non-celebrity for you to comment on. Remember to have fun and be mean spirited with your comments.

This week, Eliot Spitzer. Let the Meanness begin!

I'll get things started - This guy had an awful lot of big ideas that were supposed to shake things up and make life better for us common folk. However, it doesn't appear as if he has actually followed through with anything. What's up with that!?

Super Happy Terrific Products

I can totally picture this Star Wars Lightsaber Lamp illuminating my Star Wars collection display case. Yes, I really have a display case filled with Star Wars collectibles and no, I don't care what you think of me for admitting that. Just check it out!

The LightSaber Lamp comes in Luke Skywalker green and Darth Vader red. It is powered by AAA batteries rather than a diatium power cell like the real thing, which means it probably won't give off too much light. You can get your very own now for $23 from NCS by clicking here.

AT&T, You Made My Shit List!

I recently came across one of AT&T's new ads touting their cell phone coverage in China.

To which I say, Fuck China! How about getting your crapo service to work in the United States?

Living In A Winter Wonderland

It literally snowed all day yesterday up here in the mountains. From the time I woke up in the morning to the time I went to bed - it was snowing. It looks like we have about 6 inches of snow on the ground right now but I'm no meteoroligical expert.

Here is the view from our living room window.

Crazy, huh?

The best thing about living in the mountains (our town is in the foothills of the Berkshires) is that the people up here know how to handle the snow. The roads are plowed and everyone goes about there business as if nothing is covering the ground.
This much snow in Manhattan and everything would have come to a stop. Or at least, the Subway would probably shut down.

This week, Marion Jones. Let the Meanness begin!

I'll get things started. You know I don't give a fig for sports so it might surprise you to hear that I really get into the Olympics. This Marion Jones drug debacle has done more than just tarnish the shinny gold medal that she was awarded, it has made it impossible for me to listen to Whitney Houston's One Moment In Time again.

What Am I Missing?

While things are coming along nicely here on the home front, we still don't have TV. Hopefully that will be remedied this weekend when the Direct TV people arrive. Oddly enough, I haven't really missed watching the idiot box but I have to admit, I feel a little left out.

I'm hoping you can help answer some TV related questions that have been rattling around in my head.
Is the writers strike still going on?

How are Kate and Pat doing on the Amazing Race? Great I'm sure. After all, If anyone can win the race its two geriatric lesbian ministers from Thousand Oaks, CA.

Has the Supreme Court chosen a new President for us yet? I seem to recall a lot of hoopla about elections. Have they happened?

Who is still in and who is out on Project Runway? Please don't tell me Jack is out. He is my favoritist.

Speaking of Bravo, has Make Me A Supermodel started yet?! I can't imagine anything more craptastically entertaining than a supermodel contest hosted by Tyson Beckford and Niki Taylor!

Who won the Super Bowl?

That's about all for now. I'll let you know if I have any more burning questions later. Please keep your fingers crossed that everything works for us with Direct TV this weekend, I'd hate to miss the finale of Survivor China.

Our First Homeowner's Headache

The small leak that appeared in the basement bathroom last week didn't fix itself as I originally thought it would. Seth and I, having absolutely no experience with plumbing, diagnosed the cause of the leak as two faulty gaskets that attach the toilet to the floor. Surely replacing those gaskets would end the problem so off to the hardware store we went.

I can't tell you how shocked we were to find the leak had returned. It was finally time to call in the pros and Glen the plumber arrived on the scene shortly after. Glen determined the problem was either a clog in the pipes under the house or the septic system needed to be drained. He had to call for backup.

After uncovering the septic system, it was determined the problem is a clog in the pipes and the fellas from Darcy Construction are currently hard at work to clear that clog.

It's a bit of a relief to know that the septic tank isn't the problem but that doesn't answer the question of what and how this mysterious clog arrived. Of course, I have a theory as to the cause and her name is Kelly.

Good News!

I finally have the interwebs up and running and a land line at the new house! We still don't have cable TV but hopefully that will be remedied this weekend when the Direct TV folks get out here.

Otherwise, the unpacking and setting up home is coming along nicely. Even though we are just a little over two and half hours north of the city, the weather here is drastically different. We had close to two feet of snow fall last week and it's just staring to melt. Check out the following picture of my back yard to see what I'm talking about.

Hopefully now that I've got the "emails" I'll be getting back to a more regular posting schedule.

I'm Alive!

It's been one hell of two weeks! My holiday break was hectic and filled with traveling all over the place along with moving from NYC to upstate NY. I still don't have Internet, cable or phone at my new house but I'm in the city today and online for the first time in two weeks.

I hope your holidays were great and happy new year!
