Another Day, Another Recall

With another big toy recall announced this morning, its going to be a busy and hectic day for those of us associated with the toy industry. For those that don't know, I work for a toy industry analyst and do a lot of writing for various toy and video game pubs. In case you are worried about the toys you are buying, all the damage seems to be linked to one factory in China and a yellow paint that they used on certain products. You probably won't here that mentioned on TV because they just want to scare us all into believing that the Chinese are trying to kill us by poisoning our toys. I'll let you know if I hear anything more about this.

  1. There was a story on CNN this mornin that showed how much lead paint you'd have to ingest for it to be harmful. Basically, a kid would have to ingest not only Thomas the Tank Engine, but also all his friends, and the train depot.

  2. To give you an idea of how much lead paint was found in the toys of the latest recall, one item is a bowl of potato chips for a Barbie doll and the paint used on the chips contained the lead traces.

  3. This is a better safe than sorry issue in a lot of cases, right? Even though "it could kill you!" leads into every nightly news commercial?

  4. Well, I guess I won't be serving Match Box Cars as an appetizer at my next dinner party.

  5. Another reason NOT to procreate. Why people still do it I have no idea.
